What's the difference between an IMDb page and user profile?

Updated 13-October-2025

This article covers the following topics:

What is an IMDb account?

user account is associated with your IMDb login for every registered e-mail address.

It's connected to your general activity across IMDb.com - giving you the ability to interact with:

  • User ratings
  • User lists
  • Badges
  • Contributions

The "Your Profile" page (e.g. https://www.imdb.com/user/ur1000000/) lets you see a history of the these features, and more!

As seen above, Ratings Insights are now featured on IMDb profiles. Ratings Insights visualize your ratings behavior over time, showing you how your ratings distribute across the IMDb 1 to 10-star rating scale, various Interest categories, and the release years of the movies and TV  shows you've rated. This is always visible to you even when you set your ratings to private. This feature is also visible when you visit other user's profiles (as long as their ratings are set to public) to see how their tastes line up with your own.

You can easily navigate to your IMDb profile page from anywhere on the site, by clicking on your name in the top right corner of the site navigation bar, and clicking "Your Profile".

There are now three different color rating stars that indicate various types of IMDb title ratings on a review or profile:

  • Yellow - The IMDb overall community rating
  • Blue - Your IMDb user rating
  • Green - Another user's IMDb rating (i.e. the user whose review/profile you are viewing)

If you are viewing your own review page, a green star will not appear.

See image below for an example of the three different ratings on an IMDb profile.

What is an IMDb name page?

An IMDb name page (e.g. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0350453displays information relating to a person's industry portfolio, such as:

  • Filmography
  • Biography
  • Trivia
  • News

This information is added by user accounts via the "Edit page" button. These submissions are reviewed by the IMDb team.

Using a user account to claim a name page

To claim a name page with an IMDbPro membership, you must have a user account - then follow our instructions on how to claim your page (you can create a new name page if you don't already have one) and these are then linked together.
